Biography of nirupama sibal

Nirupama was born in New Delhi, India in 1968. Her father being an Army officer enabled her to travel and get educated in various states in the country. Inspired by her cousin who was a great deal older than her, a textile designer by profession, Nirupama knew at a young age that she wanted to be an artist like her cousin and create beautiful patterns just like she did.

After High school, Nirupama graduated with a diploma from the Polytechnic for Women, New Delhi to become a textile designer. Her first job was of an inhouse designer at “Vichitra Saris”. She married a merchant Navy officer, which enabled her to sail and see the world. During her travels she had a brief stay in Australia where she shared her knowledge with budding textile artists on Dying technology at the Taffe college and the education Centre for Adults. The Next stop in her life was South Africa, where she worked as a freelancing artist she created designs for fabrics that catered to the needs of an upcoming fashion house. She also created posters for a company called Portnet, painted wall murals in Schools and created life size displays for a shopping mall.

Classical Revival – in Modern Art

Landing on the shores of Dubai in 1997, she renewed her love for teaching and has been wedded to this profession ever since. Where she specialised in drawing and painting. She has been teaching the IBDP and IGCSE program as a VA teacher for over 18 years. She is also an IBDP visual arts examiner.

Nirupama also a practicing artist and has exhibited her works at the world art Dubai, Jumeria hotels and the New York art expo to name a few.

Her thesis for her MFA is based on expressionist self-portraiture where she is commenting on life, her attitude and her learning’s through her experiences. This thought process is based on Bakhtin’s theory on identity.
